They later developed the crystal chandelier. The crystal glass was then illuminated by gas instead of candles. When electricity was invented, people suddenly shifted to a different form of lighting fixture. Chandeliers nowadays are not commonly used as a lighting fixture. It is quite expensive to use crystal chandeliers for everyday use as it has so many crystal bulbs. It became a decorative piece. The lighting fixtures evolved along with the development of glass-making methods and materials which included illuminating multi-colored swirls to vibrant red, green and black. A mainstay in the design of this type of chandelier and pendant lights are the classic designs with clear glass and a multitude of gold. Whether it is a timeless lighting piece with intricate and ornate details or a sleek, modern and visually stimulating design, the variety of styles all preserve the elegance and opulence that is Murano lighting.
