The next type of home lighting that we want to consider is called task lighting, and this is an area where many home lighting designs are found to be insufficient. The purpose of task lighting is to help illuminate a specific area for a certain kind of task that will be performed there. For instance, if there is a reading area in a room, it would be very appropriate to have either a floor lamp or a table lamp positioned very close to the seating arrangement with the correct bulb wattage to ensure that a person will be able to read comfortably not only for a few minutes, but even for a prolonged period of time. Once again, this is where many home lighting designs fall short. Quite often, many folks expect a general lighting fixture for each room to be sufficient for the tasks that are performed there.
One concern for those designing the lighting in an office space is how to make sure that lighting is switched off in a timely manner to ensure that energy is economised as much as possible. Using sensors is one way to ensure that certain less-used parts of work premises are lit only when they are being used. This is not really ideal for office spaces, however, as a CFL lamp or LED bulkhead light fitting that flickers on and off whenever it senses a movement is distracting and very impractical in this type of work environment. Instead consider implementing a timer system so that all lights are switched off at the end of the work day. Lastly, consider implementing spot lighting for each of your employees, so that they can tailor their lighting to their task as they are working at their desks. This can be as simple and effective as a desk lamp fitted with a durable, energy efficient bulb.
