Today, most kitchens have at least one ceiling light fixture, that is mounted on the kitchen is ceiling surface or is recessed in the ceiling. These lighting fixtures often use compact fluorescent light bulbs or standard incandescent light bulbs. A number of manufacturers now make bulbs that work with these standard sockets.
You might need light to wash up and clean vegetables at the sink, for example. You will need illumination to cook. You will need to see well enough for you and your family to eat. You or your kids may even do work at the kitchen table. The lights can be focused on those areas to help. This is called task lighting.
