Fluorescent lighting is still very popular and for home use. There is now the compact bulb which can fit into the sockets previously used by the old incandescent ones. They are cost efficient with energy usage and are a cool light which can be used in many places in a kitchen.
Today is choices make it so easy to change the lighting arrangement whenever we want to. Any part of a room can be emphasised simply by moving spot lights or floor lamps. I think that we can all see that the contemporary lighting fixtures nowadays are based around flexibility. With the way that the economy is today I have had to become the money advice expert for our family and would like to share some ideas that I have found.
In a nursery, lighting should definitely be on a dimmer. You will need plenty of light when you are feeding or changing a new baby, but at nap time and at night turning a dimmer down to low can provide a comforting light for baby and allow mom or dad to look in and check on the new family member. Overhead bedroom lighting really is not necessary and if you are doing a total remodel you might consider adding some potlights or low wattage spots recessed into the ceiling. Two spots can be positioned over the bed, and are very useful if you both like to read before going to sleep. The potlights can also be put on a dimmer, and remote controls are available so you do not have to get out of bed to turn them off.
Typical bathroom ventilation CFM is should be installed per square foot of bathroom space. Finding the square footage of your bathroom is as easy as measuring a two walls. For instance if you have an 8' x 10' bathroom, then your square footage is multiplied by the two numbers for the answer (8x10=80 square feet).
